Breaking News- Majid Tavakoli Transferred to Rajai Shahr Prison

Summary: Majid Tavakoli, well known student activist and one of the 17 political prisoners at Evin prison previously on hunger strike was transferred to Rajai Shahr prison.

Majid Tavakoli, well known student activist and one of the 17 political prisoners previously on hunger strike was transferred from Evin to Rajai Shahr prison today. According to reports by Kaleme, Majid Tavakoli, Member of the Islamic Association of Amir Kabir University of Technology was arrested on December 7th 2009, on Students Day when he was giving a speech in front of Amir Kabir University. Tavakoli along with 16 other political prisoners at Evin, began a hunger strike in late July that lasted 15 days, protesting unacceptable jail conditions and insulting behavior by prison guards. The 15th Branch of the Revolutionary Court sentenced Tavakoli to 8 1/2 years in prison. Tavakoli was also deprived of all political activities for 5 years and banned from leaving the country for 5 years.
